Terms of Use

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of Vdose ("the App"), provided by the developer of Vdose ("we", "us", or "our"). Vdose is a vocabulary-learning app for iOS (iOS 18 and later): you photograph things around you or type words, and the App turns them into flashcards that it schedules with spaced repetition. Please read these Terms carefully before using the App.

Acceptance

By downloading, installing, or using Vdose, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

License

Subject to these Terms, we grant you a personal, limited, non-transferable, non-exclusive, revocable license to use Vdose on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, for your personal, non-commercial use.

This license is also governed by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (Standard EULA), which applies to your use of the App. In the event of a conflict, Apple's Standard EULA controls with respect to the matters it covers. You can review it here:

Subscriptions & Auto-Renewal

Vdose is used with an auto-renewing subscription, Vdose Essential, available in the following plans through Apple In-App Purchase:

• Annual — may include a free trial for eligible new subscribers. When a trial is offered, its length and the price you will pay when it ends are shown in the App before you start it.
• Monthly.

The following standard terms apply to auto-renewable subscriptions:

• Payment will be charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase, or, if you start a free trial, when the trial ends.
• The subscription automatically renews unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period (or of the free trial).
• Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period, at the price of the plan you selected.
• You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time by going to your Apple ID account settings after purchase.
• If a free trial is offered, any unused portion of the free trial period is forfeited when you purchase a subscription, where applicable.

Prices are shown in the App and may vary by region. Subscriptions are processed by Apple; we do not handle or store your payment information.

If your subscription ends, the words you have saved stay on your device and you can still browse them; saving new words, Capture and reviews need an active subscription again.

Earlier free tier

Devices that started using Vdose before the subscription became required keep the free tier they started with (up to 30 saved words). A Vdose Essential subscription removes this limit and includes Capture. Features available without a subscription may change over time.

Capture (cloud naming) and natural voices

Capture names the thing you photograph using a third-party AI service (Anthropic), and the natural voices are produced by a third-party speech service (Google), both through our relay, as described in the Privacy Policy. The following terms apply to them:

• Capture is included in the subscription with a daily allowance that depends on your plan (the trial's allowance may be smaller). We may adjust the allowances over time.
• Because these features depend on third-party services and a network connection, we may modify, suspend, or discontinue them (in whole or in part, temporarily or permanently) at any time. Your saved words and reviews work on your device regardless.
• AI-generated words, meanings and pronunciations are automated and may occasionally be inaccurate. They are offered as learning aids, not as authoritative facts; you can correct a card before you save it.
• Please photograph only what you have the right to photograph, and be considerate of other people's privacy.

The Feedback Board

The feedback board lets you post ideas and bug reports, vote, and comment. Posts and comments are public to other Vdose users, shown without a name.

There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. You agree not to post anything that is abusive, harassing, hateful, threatening, sexually explicit, spam, or that shares anyone's personal information. We screen text before it is published, anyone can report a post or comment, and we remove content that breaks these rules. You can also hide everything from a particular poster on your own device at any time.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to misuse the App, including (without limitation): attempting to reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble it except to the extent permitted by law; interfering with its normal operation; accessing or using our relay other than through the App, or attempting to circumvent its limits; using automated means to generate requests; or using the App for any unlawful purpose.

Disclaimer of Warranties

The App is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that data stored on your device will be preserved. You are responsible for maintaining your own backups of your device.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event will the developer of Vdose be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, arising out of or related to your use of (or inability to use) the App, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total liability for any claim relating to the App will not exceed the amount you paid for the App or the applicable subscription, if any, in the twelve months preceding the claim.

Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date above. Continued use of the App after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of your country or region of residence, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles.
